The probe itself is sturdy and spring action strong enough to grip the outdoor wire (AWG #14) after piercing for my purposes. Be aware that there are limitations to how large of a wire it will accept in its jaws and max insulation thickness that it can pierce with the needle. I reduced a star on quality because there was under a mm variance in piercing needle length between the 2 in the set. Overall happy with purchase.
